Conceptual & feasibility studies

A conceptual study will identify a selected process or equipment and their processing capacity among available and/or proposed alternatives. It includes performing the necessary engineering to arrive to the indicated result. Normally this is the initial engineering for a project.

a feasibility study defines the profitability of a project performing a technical evaluation which involves an engineering study followed by an economical analysis and conclusion.

engineering studies

An owner might select among different engineering studies to progress from the initial project stage until its approval and later project execution.

the first one is the conceptual engineering study (already described) where one selects processing technology and overall capacity.

it follows the basic engineering study where most of the process engineering is developed identifying main equipment capacity.

sometimes an owner prefers a front end engineering design (feed) in place of the basic engineering study. in this later case engineering is developed in more extent arriving to a more accurate project cost estimate.

procurement

procurement involves preparing the technical and commercial documentation to purchase goods as process equipment and materials or to contract a service provider or contractor to perform project activities. it normally involves organizing a bidding process among a list of vendors or contractors that concludes with a purchasing or contracting award where one vendor or contractor is selected as the project supplier.
